Mahagujarat Movement: History, Reasons & 1956 Reorganization Explained

 Mahagujarat Movement  The Dhar Commission in June 1948 and the JVP Committee in December 1948 rejected the demand for a language-based state. The Commission, chaired by Fazl Ali, accepted the recommendation to create states on the basis of language but opposed the principle of 'one state, one language'. Kutch is the largest district in Gujarat and the entire country in terms of area. After independence, Kutch was annexed to the Indian Union in 1948 by Maharaja Madan Singh. In 1956, Kutch was merged with the Bombay state and on May 1, 1960, Kutch became a part of Gujarat.

Historical and geographical information of the district 

Remains of the Harappan civilization have been found in places like Dholavira, Khirsara and Shikarpur in Bhachau taluka, Desalpar in Nakhatrana taluka, Surkotda in Rapar taluka, and Kruran (a town of the Indus Valley Civilization) in Bhuj taluka.

 Dholavira was first explored in AD 1967 by Jagatpati Joshi, followed by AD 1990-91 by Ravindra Bisht.

 The world's oldest 10-character signboard has been found in Dholavira. 

 Kutch is the only and longest international border district of Gujarat. With a length of 5121 km, Kutch district is the district with the longest coastline and the largest number of Menchuva (cherry) forests. - Kutch district falls in the fifth (V) earthquake zone. Which is considered the most dangerous zone. The lowest temperature in Gujarat is recorded in Naliya in winter. It is the district with the highest livestock of sheep and goats. Kharai camels are found in the Kutch region, they are likened to ocean swimmers. Kutch has the highest total of 97 rivers. (The fewest rivers are in Anand district.) The coastal plain region to the south of Kutch is known as 'Kanthi's Plain'. The Wagarh Plain of Kutch separates the small Rann of Kutch and the big Rann. Kutch is known as the 'entrance point of Western India'.

Kutch has bet like Khadir Bet, Khawda Bet and Pacham Bet. The famous tall grass region of Kutch is known as Banni. Huts are made from this grass which are known as 'Bhunga'. Sir Creek region is the westernmost point of the country. This region is known as Banganga. Banni Bharat art of Kutch as well as Rogan painting are famous. Kutch is the district with the largest area of ​​desert and the least rainfall in Gujarat. Surajbari bridge connecting Kutch and Saurashtra is located in Kutch district. Big desert 

The bitter salt of the desert is known as 'Kharasari' and the higher part of the desert is known as 'Lanasari'. The white desert of Kutch, a natural beauty spot of Gujarat, is a unique identity. 

Small desert

 The small desert is known for its white salt sand and is the largest salt desert in the world. The world's only Ghudkhar Sanctuary is located in this small desert. Vachchhraj Bet, known as the 'Pearl of the Desert', is located in the small desert of Kutch. The Banas, Saraswati and Rupen rivers contained in the small desert of Kutch are called Kunwarika (virgin) rivers.

To prevent the small desert of Kutch from advancing, wild acacias have been planted. The hilly region of Kutch is divided into three sections. Uttardhar, Madhyadhar and Dakshindhar. Hills like Bela, Khawda, Khadir, Khadio, Garo and Pachham are located in Uttardhar. The 'Black Hill' of Khawda in this ridge is the highest (437 m.) hill in Kutch. The highest hill of the middle ridge is 'Dhinodhar' at 387 m. The Tropic of Cancer passes through Dhinodhar hill. The highest hill of the southern ridge is 'Nanamo' at 0522 m. Kutch is the district with the lowest population density. Kutch district has the lowest rural sex ratio. (The highest rural sex ratio is in Tapi district, the highest number of four sanctuaries in a single district of Gujarat.)

 Kutch ranks first in the production of Kharek and Dates (Khalela) in Gujarat. Kutch ranks first in the production of Limestone, Bentonite and Lignite in Gujarat. Kandla is home to the chemical fertilizer factory of 'IFFCO' (Indian Farms Fertilizer Co-operative Limited-IFFCO). Bhuj, Mandvi and Anjar are well-known cities for dyeing work.

Mundra Siddharaj Jaisingh's inscription Chokhanda Mundra is a green region known as the 'Paris of Kutch'. Date Palm Research Station is located There is also Mundra Port. Lakhpat 

The ancient temple of Ashapura Mata, the goddess of the royal family of Kutch, is located here. Google is available from this place. Nakhatrana 

 The place of penance of Dada Gorakhnath, the founder of the Kanphata sect. The dargah of Sufi saint Hajipir is located. He is known as the 'Garib Nawaz' and Jindapir of Kutch. Chharidhandh is a wetland protected sanctuary which has been protected by UNESCO in the year 2008. - The gorge of Kadia Dhro (Kaliya Dhro) is located. 

Gandhidham

 During the partition of India and Pakistan, the cities of Gandhidham and Adipur were established for the displaced people. 2 Gujarat's largest Kandla port ('Pandit Deendayal Port') (established on the recommendation of Kasturbhai Lalbhai Committee.) (Asia's first Special Economic Zone (SEZ)) is located. 15 Mahatma Gandhi's tomb is located at Adipur.

 Abdasa 

Jain Panchayats are located at Jakhi in Abdasa taluka. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Balwantrai Mehta died in a plane crash at Suthari in 1965 during the Indo-Pakistan war. Palaces - Mansions - Forts

 Aina Mahal 

 This is the oldest palace in Gujarat. It is known as 'Aina Mahal' due to the large number of mirrors installed in this palace. It was built in 1752 AD (by Rao Lakhpatji). (Chief Architect Ramsang Malam) 

 Vijay Vilas Palace 

This palace was built by Maharaja Vijayrajji in the Rajput architectural style. 

Prague Castle 

The construction of this palace was started by Rao Pragmalji III in 1865 AD and its construction was completed during the reign of Khengarji III (1879 AD).

Desert Festival 

Rannotsav is held in the white desert (large desert) at Dhordo + in Bhuj taluka of Kutch in the month of December-January. 'Kutch Carnival' is organized on the banks of Hamirsar Lake. Amitabh Bachchan, the brand ambassador of the Gujarat Tourism Department, has given a statement for Kutch that 'If you don't see Kutch, you won't see anything'.
