Badrinath Temple – The Holy Place of the Char Dham Yatra

According to another story, Lord Vishnu took the form of Nara and Narayan here and propagated religion. Many stories related to the Badrinath area have also been written in the Mahabharata. Therefore, this place is considered not just a temple, but a center of religion, devotion and penance.

Badrinath Temple is opened on a fixed date every year. In the year 2025, the temple gates will be opened on May 4, at 6 am. Devotees are allowed to visit the temple from 6 am to 12 pm and from 4 pm to 9 pm.

The best time to visit the temple is considered to be May-June and September-October, as the weather remains pleasant during these times. It becomes difficult to reach here during the monsoon and the temple gates remain closed during the winter due to heavy snowfall.

The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun (more than 300 km away) and the nearest railway station is Rishikesh (300 km+). The roads to reach here pass through beautiful but difficult mountain roads, but the beauty of the journey makes it memorable.

Tapt Kund and the holy places around it

There are many holy kunds and places around Badrinath, which hold special importance for pilgrims.

Tapta Kund – A natural hot water spring, where every devotee takes a bath before darshan. It is believed that the water here removes the sins of the body and mind.

Narad Kund – It is said that the idol of Lord Vishnu was found here.

Surya Kund – A sacred reservoir dedicated to the Sun God.

Mana Gam – The last village in India, where there are places like “Vyas Gufa” and “Ganesh Gufa”. It is believed that the Mahabharata was written here.

Festivals and Special Pujas

Several festivals are celebrated in Badrinath every year. The most famous of them is the Mata Murti fair, which is held in the month of September. It is believed that Mata Murti gave birth here, due to which Nar and Narayan were incarnated.

Apart from that, the Badri-Kedar festival is also celebrated here in a grand manner. This festival lasts for eight days and includes music, dance and cultural programs. The daily programs of the temple include Vishnu Sahasranamam Paath, Swarna Aarti and Shayan Aarti. During this aarti, the entire temple premises resonate with the sound of lamps and bells, which fills the minds of the devotees with devotion.

Places to visit near Badrinath

The journey to Badrinath is no limited to the temple only, the places around it also attract tourists.

Vasudhara Springs – This spring, located about 9 km from Badrinath, is very beautiful. It is said that the water of this spring splashes only on people with pure hearts.

Charanpaduka – A place on a mountain, where it is believed that there are footprints of Lord Vishnu.

Hemkund Sahib – A holy place of Sikhism, which is located on a high altitude near Badrinath. There is a beautiful Gurudwara here commemorating Guru Gobind Singhji.

The banks of the Alaknanda River – Even while sitting on the banks of the river, pilgrims experience a unique sense of peace.
